What We Do

One firm for the plan, the paperwork, and the people you love

Every service starts with a conversation — in plain English, at your pace, with nothing to sign until you understand it.

Lead Service

Estate Planning: Wills & Trusts

Revocable living trusts, wills, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives — built around your family, not a template. A properly funded trust keeps your family out of probate court and puts you, not a judge, in charge of who gets what and who raises your children.

Real Estate Title & Escrow

Title searches, examinations, and escrow services for buyers, sellers, agents, lenders, and investors — handled by a certified title examiner and underwriter. Clean titles, smooth closings, and paperwork done right the first time.

Life Insurance & Financial Services

Life insurance and final-expense coverage sized to your real life — plus straight-talk financial education for families and veterans. Protection your family can count on, explained without the sales pitch.

VA Benefits Coaching for Veterans

One-on-one coaching and guidance through the VA disability benefits process — from strategy and application support to preparing for your compensation & pension exam. Jerai coaches and guides you through the process; he does not file or represent claims.

Business Development & Startups

Formation guidance and practical consulting for new and growing businesses — entity setup, structure, and the unglamorous details that keep a young company out of trouble. Built by a business owner, for business owners.

Legal Analysis & Assessment

A clear-eyed analysis and assessment of legal matters — what the documents say, where you stand, and what your options are — backed by a Juris Doctor (J.D.) education. Understanding first, decisions second.

Project Management

Project coordination for businesses and organizations — timelines, vendors, and deliverables kept on track by someone who has run complex operations under pressure. Your project, finished on purpose.

About Jerai

From Army chaplain assistant to the person families call before the crisis

Jerai Rodriguez served in the U.S. Army from 2001 to 2009, rising to Sergeant as a Chaplain Assistant — the soldier other soldiers came to in their hardest moments. That work never really left him. After earning his Juris Doctor, he built LJR Consulting Group in Homewood, Alabama, to do for families and veterans what he did in uniform: sit down, listen, and help people put the hard things in order before they become emergencies.

Today LJR helps clients with wills and trusts, real estate title and escrow work, life insurance, VA benefits coaching, and business consulting — in plain English, from a veteran-owned firm that serves clients anywhere in the United States.

  • ✓U.S. Army veteran — Sergeant (E-5), Chaplain Assistant, served 2001–2009
  • ✓Juris Doctor (J.D.) — legal education behind every analysis (LJR is a consulting firm, not a law firm)
  • ✓Certified title examiner and underwriter — for title & escrow services
  • ✓Veteran-owned, family-run — founded 2024 in Homewood, Alabama; serving clients nationwide

Common Questions

Asked at kitchen tables every week

What's the difference between a will and a trust?

A will tells the probate court what you want — but it only takes effect after you die, and your family still goes through probate to carry it out. A revocable living trust holds your assets while you're alive, you stay in full control as trustee, and when you pass, your successor trustee distributes everything privately, without court involvement. Many families need both: a trust for the assets, and a will as a safety net for anything left outside it.

What exactly is probate?

Probate is the court-supervised process of validating a will, paying debts, and transferring what's left to your heirs. It's public, it can take months or longer, and the court — not your family — controls the timeline. It's the process a funded living trust is designed to let your family skip.

I own a home. Do I need a trust?

If you own a home, a living trust is usually worth a serious conversation. Real estate left through a will must pass through probate before your family can sell or keep it. A home titled in your trust passes directly to the people you chose, on your terms. Every situation is different — that's what the free consultation call is for.

What happens if I die without a will in Alabama?

Alabama's intestacy laws decide for you. Generally, your estate is split between your spouse and children under a fixed formula — and if you have children from a prior relationship, the split can surprise everyone. A judge also decides who raises your minor children. None of it reflects what you would have chosen; a plan is how you make the choices yourself.

Can you help me if I live outside Alabama?

Yes. LJR Consulting Group is based in Homewood, Alabama, and serves clients anywhere in the United States. Consultations and the intake process all work by phone and online, wherever you live.

Estate Planning Intake

One form. Ten short steps. Everything we need to build your plan.

Take your time — most families finish in about 20 minutes. Fields marked * are required. For your security, never enter bank account numbers or Social Security numbers on this form.

LJR Consulting Group — Estate Planning Intake Form

Your answers become the foundation of your will, trust, and related documents.

Step 1 of 10About You

Step 1 — About You

Use your full legal name, exactly as it appears on your driver's license or state ID.

Step 2 — Your Spouse

Your spouse's full legal information — needed to build a joint plan correctly.

Step 3 — Your Children

List each child. The guardian questions below are the most important ones on this form — they decide who raises your minor children if you cannot.

Guardians for Minor Children

If you (and your spouse, if married) both passed away, who should raise your minor children? If you don't name a guardian, a court chooses.

Backup guardian (if your first choice cannot serve)

Special needs, medical considerations, education wishes — anything we should know.

Step 4 — Your Trust

Your revocable living trust holds your assets so they pass to your family privately, without probate.

Example: “The Rodriguez Family Revocable Living Trust.” Leave blank and we'll suggest one.
Successor Trustee

The person who steps in to manage and distribute your trust if you cannot.

Second Successor Trustee (optional)
For example: children receive their share at certain ages, or funds held for education only.

Step 5 — Beneficiaries

Who receives what. Percentage shares for primary beneficiaries should total 100%.

Primary beneficiaries

Contingent beneficiaries

Who should receive a share if a primary beneficiary passes away before you?

Specific gifts

A specific asset to a specific person — jewelry, a family heirloom, a piece of property.

Step 6 — Your Will & Executors

Your will's personal representative (executor) administers anything that passes through your estate. Choose someone organized and trustworthy.

Backup personal representative (optional)

Step 7 — Powers of Attorney & Healthcare

Who makes financial and medical decisions if you cannot make them yourself. If you're married, answer for each spouse.

Step 8 — Your Assets

What the trust will hold. List what you own — this is how we make sure your trust is properly funded.

Real estate

Bank accounts

Bank name and account type only. For your security, never enter account numbers on this form.

Business name and type (LLC, sole proprietorship, etc.) — one per line.
Year, make, and model — one per line. (Vehicles you want to leave to a specific person were covered in Step 5.)
Investments, valuable collections, or anything else of significant value.
Anything titled to you alone, not jointly.
Anything titled to your spouse alone.

Step 9 — Your Pets (optional)

Your pets are family too. Tell us who should care for them if you cannot.

Funds set aside, care instructions, veterinarian — anything that matters.

Step 10 — Review & Submit

Look everything over. Anything missing can be fixed by going back — nothing is final until we review it together on your consultation call.
